Do Guppys Or Otos Make Sounds?

right. awhile back a clicking noise started in my 20l tank (which is in my room). it only happens at night (as far as im aware) but there's a sound like clashing your teeth together when you close your mouth. my question is... is it from the fish? becasue its quite loud i read in the science section that piranhas communicate via sounds. i was wandering weather other fish do as well

tank stocking is 2 guppies and 2 otos.

at first i thought the sound was dripping water or the heater turning on or off.. but iv not found any leaks/ water and the heater light is only ever on or off... when the sounds happen.

theres 2 or more sounds that i can tell... a splash like one. like a fish landing back in water after its jumped and the one like when you clamp your teeth together

is it normal for guppies to make sounds?

It's possible because I've got otos but I've never heard that sound before but of course right after I read your thread I was listening a little closer while still reading other threads and heard that noise 2 times already.

iv got otos in my other thank as well but iv never heard a noise from them... although that ones downstairs... it might just be when the lights are off... who knows. glad the noise isent just coming from my tank though

Something in my 4ft "clicks". Its only got a small group of currently breeding Kribs and a group of 12 Tiger barbs in however, not famed "talkers".

I keep checking the bottom of the tank for cracks, as they sure aint appearing in the sides....

I have an angel fish in my tank, and she makes 'clicking noises'...she kind of pops air bubbles at the surface, it sounds like someone tapping a small stone against the glass.

A mystery clicking in my tank at night turned out to be coming from the lighting unit as it cooled down, a good couple of hours after the lights went off.

okay, I'm sat here with no tv on and no music, all I can hear is the hum of the tank filters ... and this little noise that sounds like the gravel tapping against the glass. I've heard it before and always thought it was my cory's digging around but now you've got me wondering!

I've just dumped a new plant in the tank (not had time to deal with it yet) and the fish are busy investigating it - especially the guppies ... hmm

Heaters tend to make cracking noises as the heating elements change size, I have a 100W heater that makes a right racket.

I guess we'll never know if it's a heater clicking, the light cooling down or the fish talking ... interesting though
