Do fish sleep?

....the rainbow parrotfish in tropical waters secretes a slime 'coccoon' at night. They definitely go into a 'sleep mode'...whether they are truly asleep or dream I'll leave that to the experts. Most animals need to rest at some point. SH

gourmais seem to drift as well in one large group. It takes them a minute or so to "wake up" before feeding.

I had some khuli loaches about 10 years ago that went beserk when the lights hit, swimming to one side, up the corner, down, back to the other side, up and down...all in about 2 secs. It was quite funny.

Sharks have to keep moving to keep breathing.
