ive come downstairs in the early hours before (consequences of having a 5year old) and ive seen the fish resting very still on the bottom of the tank so Ive assumed theyve been sleeping but of course they dont close their eyes.if they do sleep do you think they dream of big oceans to swim in??
in the wild they are always underthreat so will need to be on alert also every thing sleep they must sleep but not fully just incase something tries to eat them
This is a question that was already answered. The conclusion if I remember rightly:
Fish only rest - they try to get to a peacefull spot and try to not move as much and relax (or something like that).
my betta sleeps in the floating plant.......................not a movement and eyes look as if heres staring into space..then suddenly he jumps into action ...................in my comm tank the angels rest on floor against rocks and the firemouths change colour looks like they put on pyjamas
I have come down in the morning to find my fish resting on the bottom of the tank. As soon as they sense movement in the room then they are up and about.
I suppose it is the same as other animals who 'sleep' with one eye open. Or alternatively like your girlfriend when you come creeping in from the pub drunk!
