I got a female betta yesterday and she’s doing fine, the tank is room temperature which is about 26-27 degrees, should I put a heater in, also I have a bristlenose pleco in another tank, could I move it in with the betta or would the betta attack/kill the pleco, thanks for any replies

The water needs to be slightly above 25 deg C, but only a degree or so. If the water is at that temp now, you don't need a heater at the moment, but if the water drops below 24 deg C then you do.
What is the room temperature in the middle of the coldest winter night?

You might get away with the plec since the betta is female, but always have a back up plan just in case.

Even in the middle of the night?

24 is really a bit cool for bettas, I would prefer to have a heater during winter just in case.

thanks I have a 50 watt and a 100 watt heater which would be better for a 10 gallon

If it was me I'd go with the 50 w but other experienced members say that heaters below 100 w can be unreliable. If you trust the 50 w to be a good brand, go with that one, otherwise the 100 w.

Sort answer, yes.

I agree, go with a 100w heater. 50w heaters tend to break much more.

As far as my beta tanks or any of my 7 tanks I DO NOT use heaters. I live in San Diego ca and my house temperature stays between 72 and 82 without and help 90% of the time.
When it's out of that range I just adjust my entire house
I do have heaters just incase I go on vacation or emergency.

But some may disagree but my tank temps range more than most from about 70 to low 80's.
I keep
Plecos
Rams
Tetra
Betta
Guppy
Shrimp
Barbs
Corys

They may seem fine now, but improper temperatures overtime weaken their immune system due to stress. This reduces their lifespan and leaves them more likely to become ill that an otherwise unstressed healthy fish wouldn't have an issue with.

GBR need over 80, Bolivian rams need below.

Most cories need below 78F but there are exceptions like Sterbai...

By Fine now do you mean the 3 to 5 year old tetra I have? That have never had a problem or the fact that out of 100 fish including ones I saved from being flushed I lost 2 fish this year. Both ones I tried to save.

I have gold ram w three strip Cory's in same tank happy. But to you I guess I'm a bad fish keeper.

I'll keep my opinions and findings over years of running tanks like this to mysek.

Have a great day

If you don't want other peoples opinions then why post? Members help each other on this forum and offer advice and that is all @NCaquatics was doing. Nobody is calling you a bad fish keeper, simple misunderstanding

@SanDiegoRedneck

Most tetras and cories handle your average temperature. Im talking especially about your rams, depending on their species.

German blue rams need over 80 full time. Theyre a delicate species prone to illness already.

You do you, but offering you advice. Not saying you are a bad fish owner, no one is "bad". Trying to help you so you enjoy your fish and allow them to thrive at the best of their ability.

Being alive =/= thriving.
