Most likely a daft question, but will all Synodontis species eat Malawi eggs? Just wondered if there was an exception? Clutching at straws here me thinks!

After browsing over various websites, the only Synodontis that looks promising in this respect is Synodontis Notatus which apparently will not interfere with spawning cichlids, but again not specific enough to state that it will eventually try to eat their eggs.

My guess is that there is no Synodontis, like most fish that do not eat eggs.

i will stand corrected but i think if i am not wrong that
most Malawi's are mouth brooders

Most Malawis are Mouthbrooders, and the only Synodontis that eats their eggs, that I know of, is Multipunctatus (Cuckoo Cat). They sneak in while the mouthbrooders are busy mating and swap some of the cichlid eggs with their own. The cichlid incubates the catfish eggs, which hatch first and proceed to eat the cichlid eggs. Interesting stuff.
