So my question is 2-fold. I have really bad Black Brush algae in my tank which has been set up for 7 months and nicely cycled with perfect water readings. I read that adding flourish excel and double dosing kills it, so that's what i did. I did this for 2 days and i don't know if this is a related to what i did but this morning my fish have cloudy eyes and some fin rot happening. So I've put them in another tank to treat them, which is fine, i've done this before. I have 3 goldfish is a 30 gallon.
My question is about the aquarium actually. I'd like to dismantle it to give it a good clean and get rid of any disease but mostly to get rid of the BBA. I'm really sick of it, it looks awful. My plan is to keep the filter media in aquarium water while i clean the tank so as not to kill the good bacteria. But if i do this, will i also be keeping alive in the filter media the disease and BBA spores?

A. what is the best way to get rid of BBA
B. what is the best way to clean tank keeping the bio filter alive while also eradicating disease.
