Just came across this thread.

Wow, you have some beautiful discus and some even more beautiful babies! They grow so unbelievably fast.. I am insanely jealous. :)

Just wondering what hardness your water is. The softer the water the softer the external surface of the egg will be, the easier the sperm can enter the eggs.

You will always have some unfertilised though, just the way it is.

Still if they are going at it every couple of days then you have no worries missing a couple.

I think that is the answer Chris, i have 3-4 kh, with r/o tap water mix but ph is not lowering, but just discovered some people use neat r/o just to hatch eggs then raise hardness slightly. This morning i only had about 10 eggs ready to hatch so i removed the egg guard and left it to them wether to bother raising this amount and they ate them so i guess it wasnt, there parental instincts only seem to kick in if there is a good amount of fry.
But on inspection of white eggs fungus didn't seem to be present so i think hardness is my issue. The only time i have had a good hatch rate was when they layed in the community tank with low ph and hardness (due to co2) and i pulled them just before hatching into breeding tank.
So i'm going use neat r/o this week and try again
The trials and tribulations of a beginer discus breeder lol.

Hey Beechey, out of my 5 i think i have just 1 female, i want to try breeding some other colour strains but just need females, near impposible task without getting another group which i dont have room for

hey have any of you guys ever had any problems with your discus not eating?
as one of my older discus has not eating for about 4 days all the rest are fine!! not sure what to do, as the discus is still swimming around and not lost any of his colour,
help wanted

In response to beechey, mine went through this phase a few months ago. If you mix quarantine this fish and mix some freshly crushed garlic and frozen bloodworm together and then feed it to them it seems to bring there appetite back, then as soon as they are feeding regularly again pop them back into the main tank.
