Discus Not Eating

Well, with sensitive fish like Discus, I'd always recommend Drip Acclimatisation, basically with a air line. You start a syphon out of the air line, and use a gang valve to reduce the syphon flow to about 2 drops a second, and let this water feed into the bag with the fish in. Once the bag is full (or close to), you tip it out into a bucket, and continue filling up from the drip line until the fish have been acclimating for about 2 hours. Any pH change (or KH change more importantly) over this time will be slow enough not to affect the fish too much :good: How do you know the shops tanks pH BTW? Is it from testing the bag water of the last fish you got, or testing the tank directly?

I asked the shop before I bought the fish the first time what the PH of the tank they were in was. I assume it is very close to being the same after two weeks. I know they keep their Discus in acidic water. I have now tested my PH and it is between 7.2 and 7.8.. probably about 7.5. It is an API kit. Thanks for the info Rabbut. I will set up a drip for the new arrival. Thanks.

DiscusLova, I just saw you answered my post too. Thank-you. If I cannot get a drip going I may have to do it your way. Thanks.

My GH is 85ppm and my KH is 25ppm. According to the API kit, the KH is good. Is the GH the one that is affected by aquarium salt? I have not bee adding it since this thread, but it may take time for it to come back down.

Yes, aquarium salt mainly affects the GH out of all your levels, but not normally be a large amount IME :good:
