Discus In Scotland

i know we have a topic re: best LFS's in scotland but i'm wondering what LFS's in scotland stock discus on a regular basis? i've decided to opt for a 400-450 litre tropical setup as marine is maybe not for me maintenance wise etc at present although i don't doubt i'll do it sometime.

so, where in scotland can i go to see a good selection of discus?

Your best bet for finding good quality, decently priced, discs is to join a local club or discus society. As I am from across the pond, I cannot help you with specifics but I have kept discus and have never seen available in a shop the kind of quality that can be obtained from private collections.

i source mine from chens discus. he imports asian strains of discus. i know that once a month he makes a trip upto scotland and delivers fish to his supplier up there.

Personally... i avoided Chens and Plymouth... just eveyone goes on like they are the only suppliers of discus and the best.

There are loads of suppliers out there desperate to make a name for themselves that are just as good if not better.

Big names does NOT mean they are the best, just means they got lucky and got in there early.

Thats like saying 'a certain huge pet supermarket' is fantastic because they have so many stores (which must make them the best!). Obviously not the case!!

Look at other discus breeders too.

Jakes Discus (formerly Wycombe Discus) is fantastic, i met Jake as a customer of mine when he was firt setting up and that was what...2-2.5 years ago and he has gone from nothing to clearing boards at the BIDKA show. He is doing fantastically well and i saw his setup in wycombe and it was immaculate. He was so honest about everything which is plesant and his discus were outstanding. Even the 'ugly' little cobolt that was like 2" compared to the 4"+ beauties i chose... he grew to be the most stunning of the lot!! Jake showed me adult siblings and i couldnt believe it! I sure do now!

I havent seen or spoken to Jake in years.. i have no reason to promote his business other than how impressed i was!
