Discus And Other Big Fish

Hi there i am changing my tank around i have at the moment alot of smaller fish and i want to get some bigger fish now I'm selling my cardinals and rummy noses blue and Bolivian rams to make way for Oscars and catfish.

But i have 2 discus around 11cm in length i don't really want to get rid of them but i don't know whether they can look after them self with Oscars and red striped torpedoes in the tank will they or wont they please help.

Hi quite simply no oscars will just annihilate your discus and smaller tank mates are just food to them. It sounds like you want a bit of a large fish community tank and I have to admit I dont think that oscars are the best fish to do this with there are other similar large fish that would work better like Uarus and/or Chocolate cichlids, Severums and the various geophagus are always good as well but not oscars for a community in a 400 liter IMO

well i have 9 cardinals and i want £10 for them and i have 9 rummy noses and i want £14 for them

oscars are about as big a no no with discus as you can get. if you have 2 discus already and want to add more large fish then by far the best thing you could add is a few more discus , around the same size as your current discus. what size is your tank?

my tank is 5ft long and 2ft high

thought it was 400L......? those measurements would make it way more surely

would be interested in the rummynoses as onlt in leicester but with petrol costs it would be cheaper to go to lfs im affraid...

well atm i have sterbai corys, cardinals and rummys blue and bolivian rams but im selling all of those. the ones that are staying are a royal plec 2 striped croaking catfish.

personally id sell the striped raphael catfish , keep the cardinals and rummynose and add 4 to 6 discus. rummynose are particularly useful in discus tanks as they are an excellent indicator of water quality. if the red face fades there is an issue with the water.
