Dilemma With Red Tai Crab

Found my red tai crab eating my African clawed frog and suspect foul play... Really upset and horrified... Are my other fish at risk? I currently have 4 serpai tetras, female beta, 2 swordtails, and Pleco and spotted catfish who has battle the crab for control of the sunken ship.. Should I return the crab to the pets shop or get another hut? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am lost as what to do.

red claw crabs are completely unsuitable for a standard community aquarium. They need access to land (where they spend the vast majority of their lives) and they also require brackish (slightly salty) water. You are indeed right to be concerned about your fish, especially at night when they are resting and the crab can nip an oppurtunity.

I know very little about frogs, but I believe the african claw frog is also not suitable to be kept with fish. It will grow large and eat them.

my experience suggests its the crab, not the frog, at risk here
Redclaw crabs do not hunt, nor are they carnivorous. but the Frogs do, and are.

this said. I'd like to echo zoddys comments. neither should have been in your tank.

Redclaw crabs do not hunt, nor are they carnivorous. but the Frogs do, and are.

Thank you for the advice. That is probably the course of action I will take =/. The attendant at pet-supermarket talked me into buying the crab claiming it was friendly..I guess I should have done more research.

You are not the first person to fall into this trap, and will not be the last. Next time, resist the pressure and research the purchase before you make it

Good tip. I feel bad returning the crab but, I don't want to put my other fish at risk. =/.

Lol ok I am biased...but I feel bad for the frog!

Again, another case of "research first, buy last"...
