Did I Kill The Riccia?

Over a week ago, I sandwiched a bunch of riccia between 2 plastic mesch gutter guards. Then I encased them in a 'fishermens' netting material, then I wrapped everything with fishing line (not too much). The riccia that is barely coming out looks almost transparent/discolored, as if it is dead. In other places, I see very small shoots that have better color and seem to be growing. Did I kill this mess of riccia, or will the overly 'sadnwiching' technique I used just take time? The mesh is laying flat on my driftwood, close to the light, with minimal blackage.

it is better to just use 1 piece of mesh, lay the riccia on top then attach with fishing line as it takes ages for the mesh to be covered up. my

LOL...maybe I will attack some java moss along the sides of this monstrosity, letting the riccia grow up from the middle.
