Well right now I just Putin the mug....but instead of going into the mug he's sitting behind it in the corner...just resting on the sand

Don't worry if he won't go in it, if he feels safe behind it, then leave him to settle

Try covering the tank with a thick towel overnight, then reassess him in the morning.

Also, is there a reason why you've not transferred his old filter over to the new tank with him?

Here's the thing...when I first bought him, I was a victim of my lfs...so he didn't have a filter

Okay I just tested the water...and put my old filter media in there....

Nitrite 0
Nitrate so where in between 0 and 5

Did a large water change of 45-50% and no change in ammonia...what does this mean and what do I do now...will be doing another large water change tonight...hopefully about 80-90%

Do you have ammonia in you tap water? You can test that by filling a glas of tap water, let it stand for 24 hours and test it. Do you have the liquid test kit or just the strips?

That's good! There is a product you can add to your tank to turn ammonia into the non-toxic ammonium. I can't recall the name at the moment. Hopefully someone will come by who can tell you the product's name! If you have ammonia in your tap water then that's what you'd need!

Prime, Kordon Amquel Plus and Ammo Lock are all products that bind ammonia and convert it to ammonium. You should still continue the Fish In Cycling advice.
