3 weeks ago I had redecorated one of my 250L with new substrate (silica sand+crushed coral: 5/3), few rocks (lava) and a few fake plants. All water parameters are in good shape.
Then I added two species, namely Kadango red borleyi and OB peacock, all from the other existing tank. With regards to the Kadango, at first the stocking and the dominance order was as below:
1m Kad. (~9cm, can't really say it has a fully developed blue on its face)
1f Kad. (~8cm)
1m Kad. (~7cm)
4f Kad. (~5-6cm)
They were doing just fine and males tend to display some will to breed even in such an early stage of the new environment.
Then after a week, I couldn't resist the idea of adding one other adult female (~10cm) to the same tank, although I was really hesitant to do so. This female in a few moments established its dominance over all the others. The larger male had a fight with it and lost decisively. Now the new female rules the tank.
Did I ruin the nice first setup? I really want to see my Kadango's breeding. Is removing that female the ultimate and only solution? Reallyy don't want to take out all the rockwork to catch that fish. Or shall I be patient this time and wait until one of the males fully develop and become superior to the female?
