Did First Water Test In A While....

I edited your title pal don;t forget your language this is a family forum :good:

Also, for those few fish a whole block of frozen bloodworm is a bit too much anyway.

Defrost the cube in a little bit of tank water, feed them half of the defrosted worms and you can put the rest in the fridge and use with 48hrs.

Algae wafers are also another thing you can add to their diet.

With your live foods make sure they are from a trusted source as they can bring in infections/parasites otherwise. Don't pour the water they come in into your tank either. Pour into a net and rinse them over with a cup of tank water, then add them to the tank.

I always cut the cubes into quarters, and feed 2 quarters a day.

Also yet to find god evidence for the defrosting method (been researching it since first buying bloodworms)

i used to feed frozen food
like i have told you i used to
drop some frozen food into
a small glass and a drop of
tank water a when melted
just disperse along the tank

ps you dont have to feed it
all at once

Oh forgot to mention, went to lfs, picked up some new food.

Also looked at taking the carbon out of my tank and replacing with poly only.. They don't do that for my filter (Fluval U2), so looked for poly I can cut down to size.. nothing bit enough, grr.

Also they had;

Love 4 Fish, Nitrate reduction sponge filter media...

Now, this sounds intriguing to me, but no info on the box and both me and store attendant thought it very suspicious.

Anyone know anything about it?? Going to google it now.

I wouldn't advise buying anymore nitrate sponges, there a complete waste of money.
Not even been proven they work.
Get live plants, or keep up with maintainance, you shouldn't need the nitrate sponge.

polly = filter floss is it not

Think so.. It's just a smallel hole'd sponge basically, stops large crap from getting into your sponges.. seems a bit pointless if you ask me.

I find them to be good as they take the fine particles out of the water, keeping tank crystal clear.
Buy filter floss or mating by the bag, it's alot cheaper.

Will buy some filter floss tomorrow then, and remove the crappy carbon.

Also going to add some water from missus' external filter into my internal filter, as hers was given a bacteria in a bottle starter, just in case i've damaged mine in some way shape or form.

Tonights water test results;

No3 - 50 (halved it with water change, one more tomorrow and it's good for a week)
NO2 - 0

GH - 15d
KH - 5d
pH - 6.9

Cl2 - 0

Looking much better, much much better.

Is this your handmade 36" x 12" x 14" tank? This works out around 100 litres right? With around 20 fish in there?

I'd be tempted to get something bigger than the Fluval U2 (400litres per hour). Anyone else?

I figured it to be 110 litres using an online calculator, plus what I was told in the shop :S

And the U2 can handle up to 110 litres, and I don't think I'm overstocked..

I would be tempted to up the filtration, i used a U2 on my 60l and it only just did 60 litres with med stocking. Looking at you stocking without the cichlids, it should be ok with the U2. It might be something to look at in the future. Theres not a great deal of media capacity in the U2.
