Did First Water Test In A While....

i hope your bolivian rams get on okay witb your corys... im starting to worry aboit mine he has gone for the corys a couple of times now :/

Are your rams breeding? Or a set territory?

If so, then it's basically the cory's fault for wandering their way..

Otherwise, maybe you just have grumpy rams?? haha.. I will let you know how they get on after they've settled.

just checked tank to find missus has dumped a block of frozen bloodworm into tank, completely uneaten as today is a skipped feeding day..

grrr..

out with the syphon tube...

Ok, did another water test this morning before water change..

Also tested the tap water.

Tank readings;

No3 - 100 still.
No2 - 0

GH - 15d
KH - 5d
pH - 7.2 (rising??)

Cl2 - 0

-=-=-=-=-

Tap water test;

No3 - 10
No2 - 0

GH - 16d
KH - 4-5d
pH - 7

Cl2 - 0.8

-=-=-=-

Doing another water change today, probably another 35%, will post results after. Again, tests done with apprently wildly innacurrate strips (tetra 6in1)

i used to find that when
i was using blood worm to bring
fish into condition used to rise
the nitrate level quite a bit

Interesting!

I feed blood worm every other day (it's the main food source for my Goby's) could that be one of the reasons my nitrate is always so high??

What other food source would you recommend for BumbleBee Goby's and Dwarf Cichlids?

some frozen cichlid mix
high protein pellets meal worms
wax worms they might be on the big
side earth worms chopped up
brine shrimp Gama shrimp mysis
shrimp hope this helps :good:

also remove anything that
is not eaten as this will
also help towards high nitrates

With 5 corydora in the tank, no food stays around for long.

I can easily pick up some frozen cichlid mix, think the bumblebee's will take to it?
Can also get meal worms, live, though as my bumblebee's are juvinile, I would have to be careful with the size of the mealworms.

Appreciate the help biffster :)

bumblebees might also go for
cichlid mix as well

Don't over feed bloodworms as they can cause bloating.
Good frozen foods for fish are daphnia, which helps the fish digest it's food. Brime shrimp.

How many sponges do you have in your filter.
When your rinsed the filter sponges in tank water do you do all the sponges.

Nitrate still high. But the test strip card not very reliable.
Tap nitrate reading good, so if does mean you are not doing enough maintainance on the tank.

Filter has 2 sponges.. rinsed both at the same time.

You think i've cocked up my bacterial colony??

Will look at what the pet store has food wise, will be popping down within the hour.

No you haven't over done the sponges by rinsing them.

Your nitrate reading still high.
If the sponges look fairly clean don't touch them.
Just keep doing water changes.
Maybe preform another gravel vac, and hoover under ornaments, etc.

No ornaments in tank, but 3 stone caves.. will remove top stones and vac underneath.

Performing gravel vac and change once a day as advised.
(its also been suggested that my daily feeding of blood worm could be significantly contributing toward the nitrates)

would they take pellets? you can get specific cichlid pellets that a meant to be good for them.

I dont have Goby's or Cichlids, but frozen food is a special treat in my tank. Normally they get flake / granual / pellets on a daily basis, and some veg at the weekend, and maybe 1 or 2 blister packs of frozen food a month (which the do love...)

I've gone and done it again! posted a reply without seeing there is a 2nd page! ignore the above
