diadema dottyback

i have been watching him over the past four days since i got him and just yesterday i noticed a white spot on him that just today has grown and is now sticking out of him on the side of his body just beyond the gills it might be a parasite or a fingus but i'm just not sure any help in determing what this is and how i can rid him of it before he infects my entire tank would be appreciated.
