Defintion Of 'species'

My zoology teacher's claim was a species is defined as any pairing that has fertile offspring for 4 generations (i.e. mom and dad, son and daughter, gson and gdaughter). I think that was just his own take on it since he didn't exactly back up that claim...

I'd disagree with that. The generally accepted definition is for 2 individuals in a population that can reproduce without genetic or physical (ie. terrain) barriers and produce viable offspring in the next generation.

there really is just no universally accepted definition, everyones belief is too different
