I'm so happy I found Seachem Prime at the LFS outside my home Now to clarify some things.

Is an overdose harmful? My tanks are 14G (or maybe 16G gotta check again) and 5G so measuring the exact amount isn't gonna be easy...

Plus I read that if your water has high amounts of chloramine you have to double dose? Is that true? I'm not sure how much chloramine there is in my tap water but it should be rather high I reckon, since in 2005 it was announced that they were increasing the amount of chloramine used. Also, yesterday after doing a water change I had some remaining water left and decided to test it. It had 0.5ppm of ammonia in it

What is the tap water ammonia before dechlorinating? It might be that you just have some tap water ammonia as well as chloramine.

Double dose is fine in the long term, but I think the bottle says what the maximum is, doesn't it? I seem to remember it being around 4-5* the normal dose.

Prime is 5ml per 200 litre i think... good luck trying to achieve the correct dose rate

Oh, only that? That should be easily achievable with a pipette! It's possible to get ones which have 1/4 ml marks, that way you can measure out 1/4 ml per 10 litres.

Same as me then: mine gives me 0.25 ppm ammonia too

Yeah i use a syringe that has 0.1ml increments.

Ive never seen pipettes around but I find syringes easier to handle a achieve accuracy.

Put the Prime in first so that adding the water gets it mixed in well and it's instant, no need to wait.

It is instant (assuming the water and dechlorinator are mixed), although the ammonia conversion to ammonium is only temporary.

i normally use the Nurofen syringe that you get with the kids medicine (not the one the kids use tho)

Prime is pretty decent stuff, lasts a long time aswell. great value for money

The toxic ammonia is temporarily changed into the less toxic ammonium and your test kit registers both as ammonia. The ammonium will revert back to ammonia unless the filter and plants get it first.

Prime naturally degrades after 24 hours, so its locking of toxins is only temprary measure, but this is a priceless buffer... Especially for those that get a "mini-spike" or are "fish-in cycling."
