Hi, i live in south leicesershire and have travelled all over looking on the net and driving to various lfs. the ones i would buy fish from are maidenhead, a5, clearwater. the rest seem a bit nasty.... can anyone recommend some to me as im getting a bit tired of shooting round at weekends looking at dodgy lfs. at the same time its good to have been to some now knowing i dont need to return!
i dont mind travelling a little further for a good lfs, any suggestions?

a5 Would be the best mate. Clearwater are good although they know there good so there prices are alot higher than others. So you can tell there only in it for the money. All others in leicester are simply terrible. However Friends In Soppy Homes in birstall is good, they just dont have a wide variety.

Try the one at Dobbies Garden centre, quite a few rarer fish there. In my opinion you can't get better than A5 aquatics in Leicester, they're stock is always in good condition when I go there and the staff know their stuff :)

I agree with AJ also, I have heard so much about Dobbies Garden Centre, its ment to be amazing - its just past A5. I have never took a trip out there as yet though.

not been to the dobbies one yet but i have been served by some right muppets at a5 in the past and was told to add fish after a week of running it........ no mention of cycling and i ended up in a fish in cycle! also was sold an asian sun catfish by them stating 12cm max i checked it out and it grows to 18 inches..... i do agree that the stock is good but i think you need to know your stuff before buying from there.
i might try shirley aquatics near solihull and i think theres a maidenhead close by too :good: may even pop into dobbies on the way back :good:
i found clearwater prices quite acceptable especially if you know you are getting quality good health fish....

Very true, but im talking about marines. They charge you like £7 for 25ltr salted in any other shop its £6, the fish are an extra like £5-10 than other shops. The equipment is the same. But I do agree that you know your getting good stock, most of the time. I went in when they had a load in the day before and not many of the marine fish looked healthy, and there was a fair few dead.

oooooooooh, its on the way to shirly as well. rude not to pop in i guess, thanks john :good:

no bother, its brand new as well [opened 3 months ago] so its still quite limited, and very small compared to shirley, which is massive.

is the maidenhead right next to shirley? whats that like? the maidenhead near me is good but very small

i've only evr been to;

aquatics world uk - great for size when they have their best stock in.
cov aquatics - bad
shirley - great
dobbies - o.k

went to shirley aquatics today and its great, i didnt see 1 sick or dead fish :good: all fish were on offer 25% off so i treated myself to 2 large angels for £15, bargain as A5 want that for just 1 and they werent as nice too..... huge place with 25% off nearly everything so i got some tetra prima too :good:
maidenhead was larger than the 1 at stapleton but the stock seemed very normal and nothing excited me, also were a few dead fish....
didnt get time to go to coventry john but am still pleased with my angels, shirley have ordered me some diamond scale angels too for next week  the tanks are out of arms reach too so nobody taps the glass which i thought was a good idea as not to stress the fish anymore! you also get a 7 day life guarantee with the fish and most around leicester give 2 days....... so fingers crossed ill have 2 healthy angels and 2 new diamond scale koi angels next week and its only 40 mins away.... might stock up on food too when next there as its such a deal with 25% off :good:

big thumbs up to all at shirley aquatics :good: :good: :good: :good:
