Just read an story in the Daily mirror today. Pets at home are about to stop selling the goldfish bowl.

Good news for all the goldfish out there.

Also they have stated that they are campaigning to have filterless tanks removed from general sale. Which is a step in the right direction.

Nice one pets at home :good:

That's fantastic news! Hope it's not all talk by them though and they do actually get rid of them all.

Why would they want to do that? :dunno:

It will be a sad day for the hobby when all you can buy are "packaged" tank setups. Thanks, but no thanks, I prefer to run my tanks with filters of my own choosing.

at least they are doing something, now to introduce them to a fishless cycle and we are good to go :D

Its was mentioned that they are offering a 15% discount on now tanks if you turn in a bowl. They say it is some sort on amnesty.

don't know the details so don't expect to get 15% off a rio 300 or anything like.

The article did make the comment that they may be doing this in order to boost sales of larger tanks in there stores but most serious fish keeps will see this as a good thing.

true :good: I've often thought of printing off some fishless cycle info and photocopying it 50 or so times and leaving them at the desk / put them in all the new tanks, but that would cost me money that could be invested in fishy stuff.

I did print off information about the CAE after I was told by them that it was a common plec  despite my arguing about the fact it was not a plec they didn't believe me so got it in black & white for them!

I can see what you mean Inch but i doubt you shop as such a store anyway.

For the average customer who wants fish this is a good thing for the fish. Thats the way im seeing it anyway.

Definetly a good thing but I didnt get the tanks with no filters bit as well. I would hate the only tanks at my LFS to be jewel style tanks with built in filters. Also even the little tanks I have bought in the past for fry or small hospital tanks and needed to build the filter myself to fit the siutation.

On the other hand though I would prefer to have to special order a filterless tank then have lots of people go home with a tiny filterless tank and a goldfish.

I didn't think of that, I have bought a number of tanks in the past that were just the tank nothing else(mainly clearseal tanks), it would be very annoying if you couldn't go in and get a cheap replacement tank if the one you have cracks or something.

I agree :good: but maybe they could comprimise and perhaps have the bare tanks in the back or something for people who have the necassary equipment but just need a tank. The way forward really would be to have some well laid out posters on the walls(or somewhere suitable) giving information on all the equipment you need and why, also putting a leaflet explaining the nitrogen cycle in every tank would help.
