hi people.

recently i purchased 6 male guppy's from my local fish shop
when buying them at the same time i had a water check done which came bck fine, and i had also told the guy what fish i already had in my tank.

My tank is 85 litres, and has 20 little fish.

1 male siamese fighter fish, 2 blue ram cichlids, 7 neon tetra's, 2 small goldfish, 3 black skirt tetra's, 1 chinese algea eater, 2 pictus catfish and 2 male guppy's left.

it seems that every time the tank light is turned off, the fish are attacked and killed, and then half eaten b4 they are found
ive asked 2 freinds who have tanks aswell, and they are saying its eitha the catfish or my dwarf blue ram cichlids.

im not so sure as to what it is....
can anybody help????
any advise would be very much appreciated. :D

it is your siamese fighter fish - guppies resemble them too much in body and tail, your fighter thinks more fighters are in his territory and he is defending it.

thanks for this :)

i wasnt to sure as to what it was to be honest, i'll be keeping an eye on them from now on and if these fish are killed then i shall never buy them again unless the siamese is gone.

thankyou for your reply.
much appreciated :)

Your tanks severely overstocked.
What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

The goldfish alone need 35 gallon tank and 70 gallon filter as they are massive waste producers.

Also chinese algae eaters are extremely aggressive as they get older.

The betta will attack or even kill fish with long flowing fins.

Agree with Wilder, its better not to rely on a store saying your stats are "fine." They might be ok, but its much better to go ahead and dive in to being a hobbyist and understanding these things yourself. Some of the most experienced hobbyists don't need tests to confirm what's going on in their tank but for most hobbyists and certainly for many of us beginners a good liquid-reagent based test kit is one of the best learning tools (besides TFF!) that's hout there!

I'd investigate getting a good test kit and learning to use it.
