Dead Fish

over the last week i have had some fish murdered 1 gourami 2 platies 1 neon rainbowfish 1 oto and this morning my beloved red breasted acara! i thought it was my geophagus surinamensis so i rehomed it but now the acara is dead any ideas on the culprit?

i dont have my own test kit but i do have my water checked weekly at 2 different lfs it was checked yesterday and it was all fine! the tank has been running for just under a year

need those readings - water is the most likely cause of about 99% of 'unexplained' problems especially if you rely on LFS tests. Also you have a lot of fish that will outgrow your tanks very quickly - they will produce large ammounts of waste.

its not the water one of the fish are killing them! i caught the geophagus with the rainbowfish in his mouth! but hes gone and now another one is eaten!

most fish will eat dead fish - unless you actually SEE them attack and kill it is really quite unlikely. Get the water tested to be sure - if you go to LFS get them to write down EXACT readings not just tell you it is 'fine'.

Ammonia - 0ppm
NitrItes - 0ppm
NitrAtes - 20ppm
pH - 7.0
Temp - 27 C

Hmmm... ok, that rules out water quality.

What exactly do you have in the tank? Fish/Decor etc?

fish are in the sig decor is platic plants spongebob squarepants aquarium decor (for the baby) and a couple of rocks they have all been in since the tank started!

Anything added recently? Have you changed anything? (eg dechlorinator etc?) Are the cichlids breeding? Any signs of stress on the other fish or of them having been attacked?

nothing has been added the cichlids are all female im due to do a water change in 2 days so its been 4 days since the last one! all the fish are happy swimming around! thats part of my daily routine check fish temp signs of illness only thing that has changed is i rehomed the geophagus!

How very strange... None of your fish are overly aggressive, all I can think is possibly the acara killed the others then keeled over?

i think it was unlikely as he was only 1 1/2"
