Hi guys, yesterday I bought a mystery pleco home ( let's assume it was a BN ). Everything was fine last night. This morning I woke up to my plevo dead, and my tetras looking very poorly. Lethargic and their eyes are blue- milky.
One of them has a white growth on him.
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Ph 6.5

What's going on? I will post pics when I get them and Thankyou for your time.

The pleco living yesterday as you can see, looks healthy

Pleco this morning looks visually ok

Milky eyed tetra

Tetra with growth

The pleco was brought from a promptly used store which I found to be reliable.

I've talked to the store, they've given me store credit and their tanks look healthy. Nothing wrong with the Plecos.

It was because of the water. I used an unreliable water source and even though I used prime, something must have gotten through. I've done massive water changes all morning, the fish growths are almost gone, but the eyes. My goodness, they're terrifying.
I feel so sorry for these poor fish who may well be blind because of my foolishness.

To fish experts, do you think these fish are blind?
If not, will their eyes return to normal?

If you had a problem with water quality there is a good chance they have cloudy eye which can be treated either with meds (get a recommended dosage from someone more knowledgeable with tetra as they are more sensitive), or frequent water changes.  Water changes take longer but do clear cloudy eye.  Google cloudy eye to see if that looks the same as your fish.

I cannot 100% say from those photographs , but in my experience with treating fish with eye problems, if it is caught early enough the eye can return to normal. Scratches and abrasions to the eye lens can heal pretty quickly and can be done with clean water. In this case because of the other marks on the fish I would do either daily wc or use an antibacterial medication (probably the medication is the best route in your case)

What sort of medication do you reccomend? I have melafix on hand but can buy other brands if necessary .

I would leave melafix.....and use tetra general tonic, it treats almost any common disease and I personally always has it stocked.
In my experience my fish had cloudy eyes and it cleared after a week.

Ditto, in this case a broad band general medication such as Esha 2000, but I dont know if you can get that, sorry.

I don't think there is a need at this point fortunately. Most of the fish have pulled an overnight recovery since the waterchange. Their eyes are looking fine and their skin has healed. There is one still showing lethargy but I think time is all he needs. There is still a mark on ones flank but it is disappearing fast. I think everything is going to be ok.
What I find interesting is that rummynose tetras were Undeterred by the toxins whereas the flames have taken it hard.

Great news :), small daily wc wouldnt harm until it is completely clear.
