water stats -

ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0.1 mg/l
nitrate - 25 mg/l
ph 7.6

tank is a juwel rekord 120 - 32 us gallons

came in yesterday morning and found 1 of our bronze corydoras dead :(
now 1 of our clown plecs is laying on his back gasping , i havent a clue what is wrong with him .
have just looked at him agin and he looks normal , but every now and then rolls over and gasps or stops breathing ?
our tank is 67 days old , and the plecs share a tank with -

5 pineapple swordtails
5 corydoras(was 6 but one has died)
another clown plec
2 dwarf gouramis
6 neon tetras
4 guppys

Water change for now you have a slight nitrite readings, get back if he's still gasping, did you cycle the tank with the fish.
Also check for signs of flicking and rubbing.

yup we cycled the tank with swordtails and guppys

did a 70 % water change last night , and he seems to of stopped gasping so much .

however the tank is looking cloudy with white slime on the plants , and the fish have some white dots on their fins .

Sound like whitespot if the tank is slimey a sign of a parasite, do they look like grains of salt on the fish fins.

yep looks like grains of salt on their fins , the white slime is even on the bogwood :( water is cloudy even though we did a huge water change yesterday (70%) and little white dots floating around in the tank .

the slime appeared the day after we put some cucumber in for the plecs .

I wouldn't do 70% water changes thats to much, it can cause the fish stress as you can alter the tank stats to fast, smaller ones are better.
If there grains of salt on the fins its whitespot i'm afraid.

just had another look and rather than being like grains of salt , it is small white patches , kind of like a discolouration .

can only see it on the swordtails too .

tank is sooooooooo cloudy , with little white dots floating in it . and plants are slimy .

we dont know what to do as the water change made no difference on the cloudiness , but the plec is seeming better :)

could it be an algae problem?

hubby is trying to get a pic now

this is the best piccie we could get , but you can see some of the white bits and how cloudy it is
, has only been like this since we put cucumber in there for the plecs

How long did you leave the cucumba in for, you did a very large water change wondering if it gone into a mini cycle.
What are your stats now as a cloudy tank can be due to over feeding or a bactrial bloom.
Put some filter floss in that removes fine particules.
The patches on the fish are they fluffy in appearance.
Slimy tank usually can say parasites, but also it could be a bacterial infection if there patches on the fins.

the cucumber was in there for about 24 hours .

stats still same as above

ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0.1 mg/l
nitrate - 25 mg/l
ph 7.6

the patches dont seem fluffy on them , more like a discolouration and it is only on the fins.

we think the slime on the plants could be snail eggs , had a close look at it and it is like white jelly with white dots in and we have noticed tons of snails in there today .

tank is still cloudy with those white bits in , the white bits look similar appearance and size to daphnia

Are the fish still gasping, and do the fish flick and rub on any thing in the tank, white patches can mean a numbers of things from parasites to bacterial infection, even bad water quality.

the plec seemed to stop gasping after the water change , a couple of the corys are kind of flicking , but none of them have the spots , its mainly on the swordtails and our male gouramis .

If some of the fish are flicking and rubbing, and there no fluff i would treat it as a parasite.
Though you do have a nitrite reading, so it hard to say if they are flicking because of that or parasites.
