Dead Baby Fish Bodies

Hi all

I had a batch of 15 or so baby Swordtails a couple of weeks ago but all but one of them have disappeared.

They were all in their own nursery tank with no other fish in it but I've never seen any dead fish.

So does anyone know what happens to the dead fish? I'm fairly sure the filter hasn't picked them up.

Have you been checking them daily? any substrate,plants,wood,rock? its possibly for the dead bodies to be in the filter,unless it was a sponge filter?

how big is your nursery tank

Yes, been checking them daily. None looked ill, the numbers have just gradually gone down.

They are in a 45ltr Aquael Orb, which have their own filter. It isn't a strong one.

Yes, there's sand, live plants & a castle in there. The plants and ornament are in there to help them hide after the mum dropped them. I removed the mum straight away but left the plants etc in there.

Was it a cycled filter or just a new filter?

Could there be any sort of parasite in the water, I did some reading up on gill flukes when my tank showed signs of it. It can wipe out batches of fry with no real sign of anything wrong until they're already dead.

It was cycled it's been constantly running for over a year & used as a quarantine tank usually. Nitrites & ammonia readings are nil.

I do have some mysterious mites in the tank now.
