Hey everyone, been reading this forum for a long time now, brilliant resource.

I decided to start a daphnia culture a few weeks ago so i followed the guides and advice and after a period of certainty they were all dead, they seem to have kicked back and are now thriving.

The problem is though, ive done a lot of research and none of the pictures or videos i've seen look anything like my so called Daphnia.

The pictures iv seen show a tiny trasnparent shrimp looking things, whereas the creature i have are small and oval, with 2 dark ovals behind them. Unfortunately i really doubt i can take a picture of them due to them being so small so hopefully my description would be enough for people to diagnose what these are please.

Sorry about the double post but i recently discovered the hijackers thread...

It looks very much like that thye are in fact Copepodsm but i have already ordered 2 apple snails to help the 'daphnia' along, will the snails still help the copepods or hinder them please? Im really desperate for advice as there is alot less info out there for copepods

They're called 'cyclops'; the give away is the two dark ovals; that's their egg sacs :good:

I'll make any biologists cringe when they read this, but for all practical purposes you can treat cyclops as identical to daphnia.
