Dalmation Molly Exploding??

Hi Folks,

I've a 1 year old Male Dalmation molly. He's been amazingly healthy and shows off quite regularly for visitors (great dorsal fin with gold tips).

This evening, he became listless and I've noticed a protrusion from his anal area. If these guys get constipated or heavily over eat, will the intestine extrude itself? I was worried that one of the algae eaters might have hit him, but there's no bight marks on the area and it just seams to be pushing out from inside.

I know he's probably headed for Davey Jones' locker, but I'd like to understand what might have caused this so his family doesn't suffer the same fate.

sorry do not know that much about the mollies, but had some of my africans that had the same thing. in their anal area they developed a pointy obtrusion. was rather noticeable. turns out that they were just maturing. they did not eat much though and were rather listless. then i introduced some females into the tank and they went nuts!

is he eating normally? have you make any changes in your tank recently? you might want to seperate him from the community and keep an eye on him. try fasting him for a day or two and see if the obtrusion goes down any.
