Cycling

i am sorry to hear that
Ok i am gonna go for the fishless cycle but wont be able to commence until the start of june.Ok probably a silly question but: I have already filled up my aquarium with filter running, is this ok to leave until i start fishless cycle or should i empty it? I understand from the other posts that i can clean out my matured filter in my tank to help with beneficial bacteria, what about putting media into my existing filter, do i just tear off a third and sandwich it somewhere in the new filter? what do i do about the third missing from the old tank- puta new piece in?
Finally when i have finished the fishless cycle i can put in full stocking of fish? if i dont and say only put in 6 or 7 will the cycle drop down again? so many questions, thanks for being patient with me and responding so quickly
best regards
john :)

You can leave your tank running but you are risking algae growth. Algae needs ammonia so it won't be terrible, but most tap water has some ammonia in it. Your 1/3 filter plan sounds perfect. Theoretically, you should be able to fully stock your tank once the cycle is complete. However, most people do a slower stocking. some of the bacteria may die if there is less food supply at first but once you have an established bacterial colony it should be able to handle the occasional addition of a couple of fish without any problem.

Ok question number 5654! I hav larva type rocks in my tank and coral sand can i leave them in while fishless cycling?
Best regards

Yeah, decor won't really affect your bacteria growth

The coral should help to buffer your pH, and protect against a crash during the cycle. :good:

ok great all sounds good then. Managed to order some ammonia from boots by the way.
thanks all
john
