I’m currently cycling my tank using the fish less method posted on here, I’ve been told not to do any water changes until it’s done but am I ok to siphon out some of the white stuff that’s come out of the wood? I’d have to put some water back in though as it’s almost going below the line on the filter.
The white stuff has little things in it (pic below) is this normal?
Also, my plants are getting quite a lot of algae.. will this be a bit more under control once I’ve got fish in there?

You can do water changes during fishless cycling, it's just they aren't usually necessary and they can distort the readings a bit.
If you remove as little water as possible that should be OK - remember the water conditioner for the new water.


Replacing water lowers both the ammonia and nitrite levels in the water so you may think the cycle is going fast until you add more ammonia and nitrite builds up again.

There’s white blobs coming out the wood and white fuzzy stuff on the floor with little orange/yellow bits in it

It's "driftwood snot", as I affectionally call it...totally natural and harmless, it will go away on it's own...some fish will even nibble on it

I wouldn't mess with your ongoing cycle to remove it, you can later, after your tank is cycled, but really not worth the effort

Look at these big hunks I had recently pop out of some spiderwood, that had been in the tank for MONTHS before it started "snotting" ... I'll just ignore, it'll go away eventually

I concur, it’s just film from the driftwood. It’s ok to get all of that stuff out.
