I have not followed you cycle logs so could be a silly question, but are you sure the test kit is not faulty?

Nitrites will attack your fish internally. Dropsy, lethargic swimming etc. Having an option to add fish while your nitrites persist shouldn't be an option. Like standby said, find the reason why your nitrites are not clearing. Create a new thread and the scientific minded will solve your problem for/with you.

I didn't vote as they all seem inappropriate courses of action.

If I had fish that ate plants, Id get mature media. Just find someone near you or someone willing to send a bit of filter sponge in the post next day delivered (forward them the postage) If you have to, offer an LFS money for a bit of filter sponge or gravel from a tank with an under gravel filter.

I always feel cycling is so much effort when there is easy ways round it lol.

i have put mature media in there..lots of it. the ph is fine, temp constant. i just dunno what to do or what else it could be.

yes they are not faulty..i have 4 tanks running currently and they all measure differently. PLUS i am on my second API mater kit now...so using different bottles IYSWIM

Back in March when I was a newbie stuck in a fish in cycle my API master kit had me going in circles because of it's inaccuracy. I tried 2 different kits from different sources with valid lot numbers and they both were inaccurate. Bought a Salifert kit and got accurate readings. IMO API is absolute junk. They will never get another penny from me ever!

Like I said, PLANTS!

Floating plants would make it habitable and thriving plant easiest and fastest. They would likely also introduce and even wider variety of different bacteria species, and if there's something stopping the bacteria from growing, there's at least a chance they may combat it somehow (plants can change the chemical composition of an aquariums water massively).

If you keep on going trying to fishless cycle with nothing happening, algae will just start to thrive anyway with all the ammonia as its food, unless the tanks blacked out.
