Cycling My Tank :0

The time to test is after the water has circulated enough with the filter flow to get good mixing. For most of us that is a half hour or even less. I see you figured out that a teaspoon is 5 ml so you are on your way.

Thank you but it to late. It been um, 15 hours now. Will check it and i think I will add it at 24 hours then.
Or it ok to add now if needed to?
You guys are the best, thanks

There is no need to add more ammonia unless it has all been consumed by the bacteria. On day one that is very unlikely.

I just wanted to add more to reach the 4-5ppm mark. It was recommended to add 7.5ml but added 5ml first then too the rest little by to see how much it really needed.
I added the ammonia at 6:55pm on Friday and I check it at 12:00pm Sat(today) and it came out to 1.0
This means, what I understand, it to high for good bat to grow and that 5ml was to much for my 40 gallons.
The temp was at 80F so I raise it to 85F also.
The Ph is at 76 Tap 72
The NO2 is at 0ppm Tap 0ppm
The N03 is at 5.0ppm Tap 5.0ppm

So what the next step? Water Change?

I'm confused. 1.0 is less than 4-5 so... did you mean 10?

The ammonia test result came out to be 1.0
that what I meant hehe :)

Yes, and 1 is less than 4 or 5...

So I don't understand what you're trying to say? If you have 1 ppm in your aquarium you need 3 more if you want to reach 4 ppm... not less! Your post says you have too much ammonia and it's feeding the wrong type of bacteria, where do you get this idea?

Totally confusing?

Sorry for my stupidity but I though it was meant not to pass 0.5 and I got 1.0 So now I know it 4.0 to 5.0, duh me.
I did the finally test at 11:30 am May 25 after I added 6.5ml of amonia (this raise it up to 4.0ppm) tis is the result:

PH. 7.8
Ammonia 4.0ppm
N02- 0ppm
N03- 10ppm
temp 85F
Thank you

Tested my tank today after 24 hours and i got this
P.h 7.6
Ammonia 1.0PPM
N02-0 PPM
N03-20 PPM

6hour after test
ammonia 0.5

Am thinking of adding an airstone to my tank so, I wanted to know which type is good and how big should I get it?

12 hours test:
Ammonia 0.25 maybe zero
NO2-0ppm
NO3- 20ppm or 40ppm cant tell (could be 30ppm if there was one)

24 hour test:
Ammonia- 0ppm :good:
N02-0ppm
N03-4ppm-8ppm
Added Ammonia again 5ml, will check in 30 min, if needs more to reach 4ppm ammonia mark
Test result after 30mins
Ammonia-2.0
added 1.5ml more of Ammonia, which total 6.5ml, will check in 30min
last time I added Ammonia it was 6.5ml and it gave me 4.0ppm, hople this is what I always have to add

Added 1.5ml of ammonia and tested results 4ppm :good:

Tested water after 6 hours:
1.0

Your fishless cycle appears to be doing well. You seem to be getting the amount of ammonia to add worked out and it sounds good. You've already achieved a drop to zero in 24 hours of the ammonia, so your next goal to watch for will be to hope to see some nitrite(NO2) creeping up from low numbers to higher numbers.

If you have good surface water movement via your filter outlet then you don't really need a pump and airstone. If you want them anyway just for the fun and looks then it certainly won't hurt to have them add some more surface movement during the fishless cycle. The bacteria will like all the oxygen they can get, so it may help just a little. Can't really make many recommendations about airpumps (they're all noisy in my opinion :/ ) and airstones are just personal choice. The one thing that might be helpful is to know that if you can't place the pump above the tank then you'll want to get a one-way check valve so water can't come back through the line and damage the pump. I also always think its helpful to have a little set of "gang valves" (little brass knobs to adjust airflow and allow multiple airstones or bubble decorations) even if you only initially have one airstone (although if you know you will limit it to that you could just maybe find one little adjuster.)

Thanks Waterdrop
24 hour test May 28
Same results

It seem I have lost some water, dunno if I should add some, it might affect the cycle?

3:30pm
Added 7ml of ammonia= 4ppm
