Cycling a 55 gallon tank fishlessly

24 hours from Xppm ammonia to 0 ammonia and 0 nitrite.

My personal addition: Two days in a row, just to be sure. But I'm conservative (with respect to fish, if nothing else...)

What's going in there, anyway? Inquiring minds want to know! ;)

Hopefully a breeding colony of zebra plecs!

Yeah, I'm not sure if it's going to happen. Impossible to locate any adult L46 for sale. May go for L287 instead. But anyway, it'll still be home for a few of my current fish.

Your tank is almost there!!!!

Heres how mines looking today :)
Im gonna up the lights to 2.6wpg and add in a co2 system as well over the next couple weeks....
Go plants, GO!

Looking good Walt!
Where's the rest of the fish? ;)

:p

I finished phase 1 of the aquascaping and transferred my fish across just now. The rams are settling in well. Will post pics!

Ok, pics are in: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=104387

All fish are transferred, the two rams settled in really quick, I was most worried about them. They explored, the female LOVES the bubble stone. Was dipping in and out of them, riding the bubbles up. The best news yet is my female is ready to lay eggs! I caught her rubbing against the sand just earlier. Whew! I thought the relocation would put her off, but she still wants to go!

Thanks! It's only been two weeks, but it's been a looooooooooong two weeks staring longingly at a half empty tank!!

The rams spawned tonight. I could barely see it though, and they're right at the back of the tank behind some driftwood and plants. Can't see good at all though, so I can't see the eggs cuz of the angle i have to look at.. hard also because they spawned onto sand. It's the male's second spawning, and the female's first, so I'm not expecting the eggs to make it but I'm hoping!

Tomorrow, if they're still guarding that area I'll assume the eggs are still there and maybe try to remove the piece of wood...
