hmmmmm i don't have one, you have to remember that every cycle is different, but i could probably make you a made up one giving a vague idea of what to expect!

MW, feels good when BTT pops in for reinforcement, eh?

aye, he's been neglecting us all a bit recently!! where you been BTT?!

Thanks for noticing, MW. It makes me feel appreciated!

I've been in Egypt for a week (which was absolutely ace), and have started doing professional accountancy exams, so i've had a lot less spare time than before, and the spare time i do have, i really need to study.

On top of that, we have found out that our 2nd child is on the way. :hooray:

Busy boy!

Don't worry, i'll always make some time to hop on the forums and say hello. Time is just a bit more scarce than before! :good:

awwwwwwwwwww super congrats to you BTT!!!!!! How exciting!

Here is a chart which i found on Google Images. Its not great, but gives you the basics.

Congrats on the expected little one. Children are a joy. A lot of work but a lot more joy.

Good luck with your exams. Many years ago I took my CPA exams. A lot of study and practice and then going in with a relaxed attitude (easier said than done, at least for me) got me through it. Good luck again.

there you go thats something like what you should expect.

the ammonia will firstly take a while to drop, you top it back up to 5ppm and then it'll keep dropping getting quicker each time until it does it in a day (i;ve stuck to 24hrs for ease of reference on the graph.

the nitrite will start to build, it won't be quite as linear as this but it will basically rise and then fall when they both hit 0 and can do that 12 hrs after adding ammonia then you're done

the nitrate will start to climb and just keep going until the cycle is finished and you do a massive water change at the end to reduce it.

ha, ha, yes if you could make a graph like that of your parental emotional life you would see that right after the "startpoint" of a new child, the graph will show that the lows are lower and luckily, the highs are much higher!!

~~waterdrop~~
(and I've pm'd back BTT)

good graph, the ppm scale on the left side is probably both ammonia and nitrite and the ppm scale on the right side is probably nitrate

yeah sorry could be clearer! was just a quickie

no probs, if i'd have perhaps taken 5 seconds to review it then i'd have spotted that myself.

You know what it's like when you knock something like that up quickly, you know what you mean so you assume everyone else will as well!! :D

Well my company network blocks all of the pictures so I'll have to wait until I get home tonight to see the graphs. Thanks for the feedback on these. I did pick up an API master kit so I should be good to go.

This has been a good practice with the 10g tank in prep for a 30 or 45. My wife and kids are also thinking we should have the bigger tank be marine. That should pose a whole new set of challenges. :D

yeah, take the amount of a challenge and extra expense you think marine will be, and then times is by 10, then youre somewhere near!!! ha ha

don't let that put you off though it's a thoroughly rewarding part of the hobby and you will get an awful lot of satisfaction from it if you go down that route, but be prepared to read read read read read before you even start thinking about buying anything. there's pinned topics in the relevant section of the forum so hop over there if you wanna learn some more.
