CRUEL

A flame angelfish in a 10G?!?! Can't believe no one noticed the stupidity of that... Just post this in the SW section and see the reaction that you get.

Oh dear! I must have been tired last night, just couldnt work out what was wrong but in the cold light of day.....

Umm, all I see wrong is the mention of the goldfish, and I'm pretty sure that they would be likely to change it.

The ~1 gallon tanks are indeed fine for bettas, and many people on this forum seem to swear you can even keep them in less that 1G tanks

-Treasure Chest
Normal tank, with a box OVER it... nothing wrong with that now, is there? If there is, we should all stop keeping 10G tanks.

-Floating Pictures
Normal 1 Gallon tank (on the second picture you can actually see the tank behind it), with a picture frame (probably glued onto the front) to look through. All that's wrong here is the mentioning of a goldfish. This tank is indeed too small for a goldfish, but that's it

-Floating Picture on an Easel
More than likely a 1G+ tank as well, all mentioned there is a betta ... fine to keep in there according to near 80% of the betta keepers

-Bubble Columns
"These items are not aquariums. No Fish Allowed."
Says enough, doesn't it?

Can anyone explain to me why this whole website is so cruel? I can only find 1 thing wrong with it ... which I'm quite sure they'd correct without trouble as well, seeing as they seem quite decent other wise. Sure, fish should not be kept in treasure chests, easels or picture frames ... but I doubt they can tell the difference from the inside, where it looks like any normal aquarium.

fish belong in tanks or the sea. putting them in a pic frame or bubble tower is just cruel. sometimes i wonder what people would have to say if we did this to other animals or even humans!

The picture frames ARE normal tanks, have a look at the second picture:

See the normal tank behind the actual picture frame? Yes it's got a slightly angeled front, so what? It's not only an inch wide or anything. And the bubbletower says that it should not be used for fish. These items are not aquariums. No Fish Allowed.

Please read through everything and look at things properly before claiming what someone sells is horrible

Can I nominate "best post on a thread"?
Excellent post....says everything I had planned on saying. :)

my reply was solely for the one gallon, i dont think anything should be put into one gallon containers not even a betta.
i didnt see anything wrong with anything else.

in some aspects you may well be correct..... but websites like this encourage people to keep fish as decoration and accesories, when in fact they are actually living creatures and deserve to be treated with some respect and not the same as the latest accesory out!

so can u pls think before you speak it seems to be the general problem with some people in these forums that they are to have a go and get bitchy but they do not infact see that there are two sides to every arguement and everyone has different opinions!

Well ya know that the fish that are for home tanks are called ORNAMENTAL fish.

some people are so pathetic........ i offered my opinions on this topic and people have turned this into a childish arguement. oh and by the way they are called ORNAMENTAL fish due to the name given to them by humans! that is not in fact there proper name!

OMG! I think you are the pathetic one! Getting all mad because of the others not agreeing that these tanks are cruel.

And ya they are ornamental, because people do buy them because of how they look. Why do you think that people make all these guppy types? If fish were not bought for ornamental reasons there would be no reason.

And there is nothing wrong with wanting to have fish as a decoration as long as you get the right type for the tank and for eacother and you do the up keep of the tank

exactly thats my point!!!!!!! its ok to keep fish as ornamental as long as they are looked after ok! end of arguement! :kana:

Woo-Hoo! I got the best nomination I could ever think off! :D I'm glad to see some people here do agree with my point of view on this though :)

They are just various sized tanks with junk glued to the outside...
Although I wouldnt want one, they seem fine to me...
Whatever.. ;)

Edit: Erised said it much better...

Having looked at the site....... I agree that keeping a goldfish in any of the tanks other than the last couple pictured at the bottom of the page would be wrong. Unfortunately, the larger majority of the population is still under the old impression that a fish grows to fit the size of its surroundings. That is why education is so important. BUT......with that said, education must be done in a nonthreatening way or people will not listen and learn. That is why ranting and raving does no good to anyone.

I have one more thing to add.......having been a fishkeeper for about 12 years, my fish have always been a main attraction in my home. I keep the tank as clean as possible and decorated tastefully, as not only are they my pets but yes, they are also ornamental, a decoration in my home if you will. Hence paying over $500 US dollars for the 55 gallon matching tank and stand combo in light oak to match my other furnishings. I do take care of my fish and they are healthy (most of them at this time are going on 3 yrs old or more) but I also take care of the other things around my house. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having decorative tanks or accessories as long as they do not harm the fish and you keep up your regular maintenance.

Sorry if I offend anyone, JMO!

I hardly see anything disgusting here at all. I actually think the frame and chest are novel ideas. A tank themed like a treasure chest as a seafood resturant, or in a kids room. They're normal tanks basically with their extermiors modded...harly anyhting wrong there.

Who are any of us here to make any statements about how an aquarium "should" be presented? What makes a normal plain aquarium better than any of these. I doubt the fish really care, as they're living in a glass box the rest of their lives regardless. If someone wants to decorate their tank like this...why not? As long as they take care of the fish and the tank...thats all that matters.

And whats this crap about fish can't be decorations?? Again..who are we to be all high and mighty and make comments about if motives for keeping fish are "correct" or not. If you don't want to be a big aquarist hobbyist and just want a small tank for your living room as a decoration or conversation piece...who are we to say anything? Again...as long as the fish are taken care of properly, what makes it any worse than one of us aquarists having a tank. Different motive maybe..but if the care if adaquate either way? WHO CARES?

Sorry if you don't agree with me, but that just how I feel. As long as the fish are respected, and cared for correctly, I don't care why you bought them, or how you show them off.

And on the "goldfish" thing. Please remember that alot of company sites aren't designed by the actual people of the company. The job is often handed to a web design company. I doubt the web design company specializes in aqarist kknowledge. It may have been a fluke, etc.
