So I have a 30 gallon. I have 5 serpae tetras, 5 cardinal tetras, 2 peppered corys. I am going to add another 3-5 cardinals. I was wanting to know if I could put some tiger barbs, 1 dwarf groumie, a couple swordtails in there also? Thanks for the info yall.

tiger barbs are notoriously nippy and aggressive, IME they're only good by themselves or with larger fish that can kick their butts. Aside from that I don't see why not, but I'd up the number on the peppered cories instead of getting the swordtails tbh, as they do better in larger groups. Also keep in mind that dwarf gouramis are very fragile these days, I'd recommend moonlight gouramis, pearl gouramis, or honey gouramis instead.

So how many cories would you put in? If not Tiger Barbs then I'll probably go with Rasbora. Is the 1" per gallon rule a must or can that ne played with a little?

Corys prefer a sand substrate, do you have sand? What about '5 Banded Barbs' ? They look something similiar to the Tiger Barb yet are nowhere near as nippy. With regards to your stocking, the most important things to consider are size of tank and filtration. If your filter can COMFORTABLY 'turnover' your tanks' volume 4 times in one hour, then your filtration is suitable for your tank...common sense then takes over with regards to your stocking.

Terry.

Other than the tiger barbs, I can support your added stocking. I think, in my own opinion of course, that tiger barbs deserve their designation of tiger. They are aggressive non-community tank fish who do not do well with peaceful fish.
