not sure on the white spot treatment as ive never had to use it, but i would say follow the directions on the bottle and you should be fine. How much a bottle? im afraid to say it has been money wasted.
Doing a fish-in cycle is very hard work and it takes alot longer than a fishless cycle to actually cycle the filter. (alot longer than 4 days im afraid)...therefore you still have an uncycled filter despite all the magic bacteria in a bottle they flog you in the LFS (Local Fish Shop) that they sold you. They are useless the only thing that will cycle your filter is ammonia (which now is your fish).
Your Ammonia and Nitrite levels need to be 0...ANYTHING above 0 will be slowly killing your fish. Up your water changes to 50%, then test, if still above 0, do another 50% etc..untill they get to 0. Fish-in cycles need waterchanges 1,2 sometimes 3 times a day!, you are now a water changing machine.
yeh gutted about the money but more by the bad advice im getting from my LFS. just read the white spot bottle and need to do water change before i can add it anyway so guess im gonna be busy tonight. thanks for all your advice i will keep you posted hopefully with success rather than railure.not sure on the white spot treatment as ive never had to use it, but i would say follow the directions on the bottle and you should be fine. How much a bottle? im afraid to say it has been money wasted.

ok thanks i will get what i can tomorrow thanksI'd just like to point out that a 'filter squeeze' won't do you much good; the bacteria cling on to the media quite strongly. A bit of the actual media, a piece of sponge or a few ceramic rings (your friend can donate up to a third of their media, so long as it's replaced) will do your tank much more good.
You're going to have to be doing a lot of water changes as well as treating the whitespot, so make sure you can calculate how much of the medication you need to add to your new water.
