I was wondering if there was a fish similar in appearance to the corydoras that is marine...or a species of corydoras that can (over time) acclimate to marine conditions...

aint gonna happen.

possibly a scooter blenny.

I grew up with freshwater tanks, and had several corydoras over the years. I came accross one that lived a few years in a marine tank. The species was unknown to me, which is why I am trying to get information on this species as my ex and I are not in touch, so asking about what species is not an option there. I asked about other species because I believe the 'green cory' is not actually a true corydoras, but looks quit similar.

Not aware of such species are you sure it was full on marine and not brackish

I'm with BigC here... can't really see it happening. I certainly am not aware of any marine species.

The best "substitute", in my opinion, would be zebra hermit crabs, Calcinus.

Hermit Crabs look nothing like a Corydoras. lol. I am sure it was a marine tank, I remember the inquisition about two of the fish in the tank, one being the Corydoras. Alright, if there is not a species known to handle greater salinity, or not another species of fish that looks like one, no biggie. Thanks for replying.

most corys cant tollerate salt im sure, maybe a mandarin they kind of float around the bottom of the tank though there are many many fish maybe its something that appears rarely in the hobby that not many people have seen, i cant think of anything commonly avaliable that looks like corys.

What you saw may have been some other brackish species from the Callichthyidae family that had been put in higher salinity (which is still not a good thing to do, but I know some people and stores do that with brackish fish). I would be very skeptical if I saw a true Corydoras species in a marine tank though.

I also must agree with Lyden. Hermits are just better anyway.
