got some of these form my lfs yesterday, they're absolutely gorgeous  meant to be 66 for 6 of them though  got it down to 60 as I spent 130 in there

he said they're the first batch of them to come into the UK, put it into google and got literally nothing whatsoever ??????? bit bloody rare then?!

anyone ever heard of them or know owt?

I'll try and get some pics soon and post them so you can all get jealous :p  :D

Hi Miss Wiggle :)

What do they look like?

If they are about the same size and build as the bronze corys, and have a brightly colored stripe running down their sides, they are sp.cf. aeneus. This sp.cf. just means that they look like C.aeneus, but the scientists haven't come to a final decision yet as to whether they just a color variation, or will be named as a different species completely. The black corys fall into this same category.

Do they look like these, which are commonly called Peru gold or Gold Shoulders, but the stripe is more white or cream colored than gold:

Or do they look like these corys, which are frequently called orange lasers:

Or are they something completely different?

they're definately not lasers, seen those before.

they're quite young (or small, bit hard to tell) at the moment so can't really comment on size and build, will just have to see after I've had them for a bit if they start growing or not!

they're similar to the first pic, different colours though so yeah your probably right about them being sp.cf. aeneus.

whatever they are they're bloody gorgeous!

I'll attempt to get some pics up tonight or tomorrow :D

sadly one of them seems to be a bit poorly, thought there was something up when I put him in the tank, 5 of them ran off and started playing together nd 1 just sat by himself. Just put it down to the shock of travelling and being in a new tank and thought he'd come round. Then we found him stuck to the filter  thankfully we managed to get him off and he's still alive but had a bit of a wound on his side, started melafix'ing the tank to help him recover. Then came home later yesterday and found the same thing again. So we've moved him to a hospital tank all by himself with a much reduced flow so he can't get stuck. Must just not be a strong swimmer but I'm not really sure what to do with him. I can't see the flow in the tank the rest are in being a problem..... I've endler fry in there that can get away from it so a 2cm cory should be able to no problem?? Just gonna have to see how he recovers in the hosiptal tank I reckon and hopefully he'll get stronger and can go back in with his mates.... really dunno what we'll do if he just doesn't get strong enough :/ any suggestions would be good! anyway he's gonna be called nemo now cos of his naff swimming skills. rest of them seem to have settled just fine though thankfully! :)

Hope the fishie does ok :)

Are they gold all over? as the pic below?

These are gold all over as I said and are thought to be a subspecies of C. melanotaenia, they are not the same as Peru gold, Gold Shoulders or gold laser line corys.
I spoke to Monty at trimar about these a while ago and he had never seen them. I had a tank of twelve of them and they got boiled by a dodgy sera heater :( I now have a tank wth nine of them in and new heater and an eheim pro filter as compensation from eheim :)

sadly we lost little nemo   he was in the hospital tank being melafixed for a few days but obviously wasn't strong enough to make it

think the filter's on it's way out which is why he got caught, off to get a new one tonight (getting the same one again so I can just use existing media and have instant mature filter), fingers crossed no one else gets caught and hurt in the mean time :/

they're not peru's... they had some of those in the shop as well, definately different.

sort of similar to those.... bit hard to tell from just 1 pic. Know I've said this for a week or so now, but I will try n post some pics so you can all see them.

:)

Hi Miss Wiggle

I'm so sorry to learn that you lost little Nemo. :rip:

Perhaps your fish are C. melanotaenia. They have a shape similar to C. aeneus, but are a little more slender. They are sold around here under the common name of Green Gold. Here's a picture:

the stripe is higher up and much more pronounced that those.

they look actually somewhere between those last 2 pics, the body shape of the one you posted but closer to the colouring of the one paulf posted.
