I just added some Red Cherry Shrimp. I have never added copper before knowing I wanted some RCS and that they can't live with copper.

I just thought to look at my plant supplement and there is some copper. Will this small amount hurt the RCS?

Seachem Flourish Plant Supplement
Copper = .0001%

I have not added this supplement for 2 weeks and did a 35% water change since adding it.

Thoughts?

Interesting question, I have no idea. It seems like a really tiny amount but it will be interesting to see if somebody knows.

~~waterdrop~~

I woke up this morning and I can't find them. Do they hide really well?

The water is cloudy as well. Could that mean they died or does that just happen when you add something new to the tank?

Sounds like they are dead - shrimp are very sensitive to both meds and water conditions.

what else is in the tank? if there are fish that will eat the shrimp they naturally will hide. i have hikari shrimp food for my shrimps and it contains traces of copper so i dont think a tiny amount will kill them....
i had about 50 cherry shrimp in my com tank and used to see them all the time but then added a couple of angels and they were all eaten except a few that stayed hidden away due to the danger....

I have some driftwood with anubios attached.

The fish are:
1 dwarf gouromi
2 dwarf platy's
3 guppies

There are plenty of places to hide. I was hoping they would be find since they are much bibber than the food I feed the fish. There is no way they could fit these adult RCS in their mouths...but maybe I'm wrong.

Hopefully I will see them when I get back.

Now the question is did that little bit of copper kill them or the fish?

The water conditions were perfect: Ammonia=0, Nitrites=0, Nitrates=very low

Hi I have 7 red cherry shrimps in my tank, they will most definitely be hiding, I have driftwood and plants and they are always hiding within them for the first week or so, its my second week with them and they seem to be a little braver now. I wouldn't know about the copper tbh I haven't got and in my tank. One question do you have sand?

No sand. It's the biorb 60L so it has the larger rocks at the bottom. Do they need sand?

no, no just I do and its a good way of telling whether they are still alive as in the morning you can see the whole of the bottom of the tank has been sifted by the shrimps during the night

that would be fun.

I went home for lunch today and saw two of them eating the moss on the driftwood. So at least some made it. Hopefully the rest are hiding still.

i have three in a 28L. Plenty of foliage for them to hide in, you'd be amazed at how good at hiding they really are, despite their colour.

They love love love Java Moss from my experience.

Is Java Moss what is all over my driftwood? So should I leave the mosso on the wood?

Quite likely! If you want a place for the shrimp to hide and call home, i'd leave it on. If you don't like it as it is, you could try attaching more to a different piece of decor. There are plenty of threads in the planted section of this forum on how to attach Java Moss / Riccia.

Happy shrimping!
