Cooling Fans

I just aquired some fans to cool my tank a bit after adding a twin 150w MH fitting. The fans seem pretty quiet and I got a thermostat/controller too so the whole thing sees to itself now. The fans currently point sightly downwards, blowing onto the water surface - seems to work fine but evaporation has increased, as you might expect.

Here's the question - should the fans be aiming at the water surface or inclined upwards towards the lights - i.e. cooling the water once the heat from the lights hits it, or cooling the air below the lights before it hits the water - here's a link to the lights so you can see what I mean.

Do the fans articulate sperately or all together. Prolly ideal would be a little bit of both

Bit of both would be ideal Ski but in reality the one I have is a bank of four fans in a row - like those on the link, it will articulate up or down, but it's the whole lot moving together.

Hummm, well unfortunately every system is unique. If its closed topped I'd say point it at the light, if its open topped, I'd prolly point it at the water. Ultimtely you may have to just see which one works better

Open top - pointing at the water is how I have it. Just wondered if I was missing a trick.

Thanks for your comments Ski - may try pointing skywards and see what the effect is, though not just yet - corals got a little shocked when I first put the halides on a couple of weeks ago and temp increased real quickly, hence getting the fans. Steady 78 ish now so all seem happy enough.
