I really like sea stars and i want urchins even more but i cant have them :-( I will soon have a tank between 30-40 gallons, with a 10 gallon chaeto sump. The display will be decorated will soft corals, shooms, polyps, and a feather duster or two when it matures. I want peaceful fish and clean up crew.

Can somebody reccomended a weird/whacky/odd/cool invert for this setup? I obviously dont want anything that will wreck the tank and its inhabitants, and nothing overly hard to keep.

You CAN have an urchin in your tank but it WILL eat your coralline algae and it WILL knock over your corals and it WILL grow large depending on the type you buy. If you get one, don't buy it until you have coralline algae well established in your tank. SH

What about fire shrimp - they're beautiful and join the fish at feeding time (once they settle in) - I have two and its amazing to watch.

My Eucidaris metularia refuses to eat coralline. It feeds almost exclusively on macro, so it's not entirely correct that all urchins require/will eat coralline.

clams, scallops, and sea cucumbers are all pretty cool inverts. i got a blue starfish and feather duster already, gonna get a urchin soon and some more inverts aswell

coral banded shrimp is my personal favorite but some people will argue that theyre too aggressive. I will agree that they are usually pretty aggro against other shrimp.

harlequin shrimp, pistol shrimp goby combo(fish and shrimp combo) LOL,Porcelain Crabs, Pom Pom Crabs, a group of Sexy Shrimp. Some ideas

Arrow crab? One of my favourites, usually is peaceful, but I can't seem to keep one past a few months. If you can keep one on the first or second go (they are usually said to be easy to keep) they make a great addition

Dont harlequin shrimp need live starfish to eat? Ok if you have lots of them little pest starfish (cant remember the name think it beings with A) but if you dont they will probably starve. Pretty tlooking shrimp though.

My vote would go to a pom-pom/boxer crab. These guys look really cool and I definetly plan on getting one later on (most likely not for my nano).

They dont have to have starfish to eat. You can feed them other things as well. There is a good chance that it will kill any star fish in your tank though. Pom-pom crabs are pretty gnarly but not exactly reef safe.

Yellow Cucumbers have always intrigued me, and should be fine in a tank that size, provided you don't have hermits.

My favorite has to be sexy shrimp though.

Where did you read this? I have also read it once, but the book I found it in is fairly outdated. I have never elsewhere found that they can be fed other foods, besides starfish and urchins.
