First, I'd like to start off by saying that they are NOT in the same tank!! XD... of course, I'm sure most of you were thinking of that already ^_^; hehe... but, y'never know. Well. . . anyway...
Recently, I asked if I could add some corals into my tank, however the corals were soaked in clorox before hand... long story short, I added the corals in the tank (after soaking them for weeks upon weeks in water and decholrinator) and my convicts seem to be loving them! They even laid their eggs on some slate that's infront of the corals, which hatched yesterday! =)

Anywho, here are some pictures of my convict pair...

Mom hiding underneath some coral. Such a lovely home.

Mom, wondering where her eggs went... they all hatched of course =)

ConvictsTank4.jpg

Mom worried, calls for Dad, wondering where their eggs had gone! *gasp*

Dad doing his daily(our hourly? haha) scouting routine, checking if there are any fish in the tank!

Mom...still thinking where her eggs have gone... =P

...Hehehehe... I guess she just doesn't remember where she put her eggs XD...

My convict tank. 55 gallons I believe.. ^_^;

And here are some pictures of my Betta tank. Newly established. I'm glad my Betta has a new home! Ahh...I'll be housing another Betta, hence the divider =) Poor little guy...living in a jar ever since he was at the pet shop...He seems to be doing very well now!

Yes, the tank looks rather boring... but at least it beats living in a small jar!

Here it is, I believe it's a 10 gallon tank... or maybe it's just a 5 gallon >_>;;

Woo, living in the philippines is tough when you're taking care of fish! The water is a main problem, next to the numerous power outages around here... also, fish selection are somewhat limited =( ... but I love em! =)

EDIT
Ack, I guess this should go here and not in the tropical chit-chat forum @_@;; sorry!!

She prolly ate the eggs.. or maybe Mr ate the eggs.

Good luck with the pair though! :good:

Oh they all hatched ^_^;; I saw the fry wiggling about on the gravel... however, I don't see them anymore =( I hope they're just hiding... and weren't sucked up in the filter... which shouldn't happen anyway.

the parents could of eaten the fry?

they wont hide cos they wont leave the parents.

when mine had fry you could see right away cos there was a massive black cloud of fry following the parents like a shadow.

SAD!!! :(
Perhaps that's what happened...although I do feed them regularly... I don't see why they would resort to eating their young..aw...

However, I did notice that the parents (most likely the father) moved some of the gravel around (digging) and he got down as far until you could see the grill of the underground filter :crazy: so, maybe the babies went down there... ack, I'm also using powerhead pumps instead of the typical airstone+tube combo with the underground filter.. Hmm I hope that made sense... it's hard for to explain, hehe..

basically I have my tank set up like this:
it's a 55 galloon tank that uses an underground filter. However I substituted the airstone+plastic tube with a powerhead filter that way the waterflow is a bit stronger.

I'm starting to think that the fry were sucked in through the filter since part of the underground filter grill is exposed.

Thing is, I checked the filter media if there were any fry in there, but I couldn't find any O_O;;; ... so... yeah. *sigh* aw...

-=-=-

Another thing I'd like to point out is that my two convicts have bred about 3 times (this being their 3rd time) within 3 months. o_O;;;

The first two times they bred, they were kept in a 25 gallon (small yes... @_@;;) with a sponge filter. When those fry hatched, they never followed their parents... they just stayed near the area where they hatched..hmm... so I'm hoping that's what the 3rd gen. fry are doing, just hanging out in some safe spot...

wow, what a lengthy post... sorry @_@!!!

Convicts often eat their first few batches of fry.. why.. I really don't know.. some people say it takes them a few spawns to get the whole parenting thing down right..

I would remove a parent if you're hoping to raise them.. maybe leave the female to raise the babies.

Ahhh, that I didn't know (parents eating their first few batches of fry)
One thing that boggles me is why they didn't eat their previous batches of fry O_O;; hm... very interesting.

As for raising the fry, I never really had any intention of taking care of them, I was actually planning on just using them as food for my other fish, however I've started to gain more interest in trying it... =D

Perhaps the next time they lay eggs I'll separate the father in a different tank ^_^; thanks for the suggestion!!

=UPDATE=

It's a miracle! Lastnight, I was just about to feed my convicts and to my surprise, I saw the fry swimming (actually... just lounging) on the rock where they hatched!! I was amazed that they survived!! Well, now that I know that the parents didn't eat their young, I'm going to try and raise them =)

Here are some pictures... ehh... you can't really see the fry because the pictures are somewhat blurry since my camera doesn't have the option to turn off the flash and.....er yeah, my camera just lacks a lot of stuff ^_^

Such small things they are =3

jus a word of warning.

you mite struggle to rehome any convicts as most shops wont take them.

id do some asking around before you have 50-100 cons in your tank and nowhere to put them.

Thanks for the heads up ^_^;; I've already talked to one of the petstores where I bought the convicts and he was willing to accept any of them. hehehe...

I could also use the fry as food for the other fish, mainly my bettas :fun:
