Hi, my convicts are breeding for the 3rd time with baby fry swimming and today i realized that the male convict has a nice red tail, does that mean that he is really happy, as that has never happened before, it has only stayed blue, grey colour.
Does it mean the water quality is good?
Thanks in advance...

ive seem these in my lfs and they are called something else but still a convict it probably just takes a while to colour up the one at the lfs is about 3" just over maybe im not saying this is correct just what ive been told mate so i could be totally wrong lol

Convicts are South American Cichlids. This topic belongs in the " New World Cichlid " section.

He is just coloring up. I've had convicts get extraordinarily beautiful.

Yeah it was yesterday when it happened and i did make some changes to the tank...i did a 15% water change and have also been feeding them bloodworms twice everyday, they all seem to be really happy and way more active, so bloodworms and other meaty foods are on the list now.
Thanks for the comments and sorry for the wrong forum place with this topic...il remember that :p

how blue is he? is his third stripe from the head "broken"? is just his tail red or are his dorsal and bottom fin red or tinged red? do you have pics :) - you might have a Honduran Red Point - lot of debate about them some say they are a geographical variant of the regular convict others say they are a different species with in the family like the Sajica is to the Convict. What does your female look like? mine have fry and mine are both HRP and the female has black stripes on a pearly blue body with a bright bright blue head and fins.
