I'm setting up a 3ft tank (have other smaller tanks for temporary housing ). Currently have a 3in male convict and am planning to get 2 jewel fry. Have just been asked to rehome white albino malawi zebra 3in male who is being evicted for attacking his tankmates. I have lots of plants and some rocks to provide cover in new tank. Plan to upgrade to 120cm tank later if necessary
Can these 3 species live together without starting World War 3 ? Don't want my convict to get beaten up or baby jewels killed.

i have a breeding pair of jewels and breeding convicts together with no problems at all

Glad to hearjewels and convicts get on as I would like 2 breeding pairs eventually. How big is your tank and what sort of plants, rocks and substate do you use to separate their territories and avoid fights?
have to make a decision ASAP whether to accept this white zebra
What about the albino malawi, will the convict attack him -or vice versa -as they are both adult males 3 in long?

my tank is 5.6ftx2ftx2.6ft 825L no plants (as they get eaten by the giant gourami lol) 3 massive pieces of slate /mopani wood/sand stne and the substrate is playsand

Ya I don't think a 3ft tank would be suitable for grown jewels.

And jewels/convits are old/new world but as jay and others have said they have had no problems.

DECISION NEEDED =do I get this albino zebra malawi and will he fight the convict (both adult males)? Zebra needs to be rehomed urgently as he's attacking tankmates. Will he get on wiht jewels when they grow up?
RE: Jewels and convicts
Thanks for your reassurance everyone that convicts and jewels are OK together. BUT the most urgent question is whether either or both will be bullied by the albino zebra malawi. Have to make a decision tonight whether to accept the adult zebra who urgently needs rehoming, in which case he will have to share with same size adult convict as I have nowhere else to keep him. Young jewel fry can share with my mollies till they grow bigger and/or become aggressive. Then they will have to join the convicts -and the albino zebra, if I have him

PS - Why do jewels need such a big tank? Thought they only grew to 3-4inches. If they become huge like oscars can't have them. No room for 6 ft tank indoors/

the main need for the tank size is agression - in a three foot tank I dont think either will mix - im in a similar situation i have a 3ft with a pair of honduran red points (smaller tamer convicts) and would like to add an other cichlid but i know it will be a mistake or a risky situation at best.

I think you might have some fighting with the male cons but also where as your tank is around 100 - 130 liter Jays tank is 800 liter so a big big difference there and while the cons and jewels will mix well there in a smaller tank this probably wont be the best decision.

Also the zebra malawi would be best if he went back to the LFS - someone will be able to give him much better home in a true malawi tank :)

I have a Jewel and Convict in my Mbuna tank....they are the weakest fish in there but no major problems.
