Controlling Co2

Hi all, this kinda quick but i made the yeast Co2 and on another forum they sayd that you should see 1 bubble for every 2.5 gallons a min.

I have a 10 gallon and i should see 4 bubbles a min and im seeing 38 bubbles a min. so that enough for 9 and half tanks

i know im not suppose to cap off or cut off the flow of the gas because it will/could explode the bottle but can i limite the flow of the Co2 ? and also what are the side effects of an abusive amount of Co2to the fishes? like 9 ten gallons amount of Co2!!

how are you introducing the gas to the tank? if you're using a ladder, just leave less of the ladder in the water, increasing surface agitation will also remove it from the water.

IME yeast mixes start high output and fairly quickly settle down.

keep a close eye on the pH, it can swing very quickly with a sudden increase in CO2.

well i got a air wall air stone,and i made the mix last night so the Co2 spike can settle down. to count the bubble i just put the hose in the water to count the bubble but will attach the large air stone to the hose so i can break up the Co2 more

also whats a ladder and also increasing surface agitation?

and my PH as of right now is 7.6 so will monitor it every what day or so...

an airstone is a pretty useless method of diffusing CO2, the gas just doesn't have enough contact with the water.

the bubbles have a much more time to dissolve in the water doing it this way.

"increasing surface agitation" = more water movement on the surface of the water which encourages gas exchange, releasing CO2 from the water and introducing O2

i think i just made a huge mistake, i had the hose from the DIY yeast Co2 and i tested my PH and it went from a 7.4 down to a 6.6 in about 2 hours


Should i do something?
will it kill my fishes now??
how can i fix this

If I was you I would get a Co2 reagent test kit which will show you (colour sticker) how much CO2 is being diffused into your water.
Disturbing the surface with O2 will just expell the CO2 out of the tank.
CO2 needs to be kept in contact with the water in order for it to be diffused into it. If it just bubbles up to the surface then it is usless.

Above is a diffuser which will keep the gas incontact with the water and then expell the access at the top.
coupled with the test kit

This will let you set how many bubbles you want per second to get the right amount of CO2 saturation and correct pH levels.
