i need info on them as i am planning on adding some to my 25 gallon tank any info will be appreciated

Recently got 8 congo's, beautiful fish, however, they do require alot of swimming space, they are non-stop, they also require a good sized shoal to feel comfortable or else they can become very skittish and hide away. I have 8 in a 50g and I wouldnt want to see them in anything smaller.

I see them here at the university in a big 100g (or more) and they are at home with much bigger fish and get pretty big themselves...

my tank is 80cm long 36cm tall and 30cm wide and i see my tank might be a bit small :( shame i really like them

they're lovely fish, but i do think it's on the small side for them :/

shame :( what about bolivian rams i like them aswell surely its suitable for them

Yep be fine for boliv's, what else are you stocking it with?

yup, tank size is fine for a pair of rams, what are the other fish in there and how long has the tank been running? Rams can be a little picky with water conditions, what are your current stats?

Yes, a shame since you like them... the question of how small a shoal will work for a given tetra species in a given tank with a given fish community is quite a difficult jigsaw, I think.

I would ask the members, are we sure a smaller shoal might not work in the OP's tank? Usually, the larger the shoal the better, as we all know, but in this case if the Congo's were about the largest fish in the tank (what else is there? I forget), might they not be happy? I'm probably just pushing it.. these are pretty big fish by nature...

i have 2 weather loach in atm and i have a small red tailed black shark in my other tank waiting to go in and its been running for bout 5 weeks and i tested for nitrite and ammonia gthe other day an they were both 0 ..i do regular checks to stay on top of things and good i love these fish

it's not really a case of shoal size or bio load, they just need more swimming room than a 20gal can provide IMHO :/

so i could add bolivian rams and if so how many would you reccomend ppl

whats your pH and nitrate like?

I'm dubious about the RTBS and rams in a 20gal I'm afraid.

RTBS are quite agressive and territorial, the ram's can also be territorial and while they're not a catfish they do hang around the bottom of the tank and will need to claim some floor space as their territory, I'm not wholly convinced that there will be enough floor plan for both the RTBS and the rams to claim their own bit of territory and when this happens the tank ends up a never ending fight :/

not 100% on this so would welcome anyone elses thoughts, probably not a 'definately don't do it' but it just makes me a bit uneasy IFKWIM
