Concrete In A Tank?

I am thinging of setting up a very large aquarium. I know that i am definatly going to use sand but i am wondering if i can use concrete to add decor to the tank like rocks and caverns and such. but i dont know if it is safe to use for fish

Most of the new man made ponds here in Phoenix have concrete bottoms. They stock them with catfish, trout, bluegills, bass, and grass carp. Don't see why it would effect a tropical aquarium in a negative way.

I wouldnt use it personally due to the chemicals gone into making it, and personally wouldn't take the risks invovled.

For rocks and decor take a look as some posion dart frog forums. We use things like clay, cat litter, plaster of paris to make huge rocks etc.

Rapid set mortar works well. I have used it before but let the tank soak for three weeks, maybe it was four and kept changing the water daily. I didn't have fish in it whilst doing this by the way.

You shouldn't use concrete because it gives of bad chemicals .

As I said, I have used it with no problems. I think the brand I used was called rapidcrete.

Generally fine, depends on the composition though, some cement can raise pH.

why dont you use the concrete then coat it with a water repellent , thats what i used when i made my garden pool and it is fine

You can always soak the concrete in water, changing it every day for three weeks or so; that leechs out the lime that raises the pH.

I have build and used concrete tanks for years.. And kept all kinda fishes .. I know many done the same.. But soon as the concrete drys, Just fill it with water and empty it 5 times over a week time...
