I have given a much needed update to the pinned section. As you can see, it is much, much smaller. Many noteworthy pins are now incorporated into the Planted Aquariums Resource Center PARC. Just follow the links. You can still even comment on them. I have gone through each thread and link to make sure the information is up-to-date and that the links and images work. There is still some work to do, but I think the information presented better to reflect newer trends in the hobby. Not that these trends are particularly new, I've been unknowingly practicing them for about 5 years! :hyper:

I'm leaving this thread open to any suggestions or comments you may have about PARC or this section in particular. If there is a problem with links, images, or PARC contents, please do not hesitate to let me know on this thread and I will do my best to fix them. Eventually, I will pin this comment thread, so I can have easy access to what needs to be done to fix this section and get it more active again. If you have things you want to see pinned, post them here. If you have complaints, post them here too. Some of you have voiced complaints in other sections and in other forums. I can't do anything about your concerns if you don't post them here.

Many thanks, I really appreciate that you took the time to do this :good:

Will have a look through later when I have a bit more time.

Cheers,

how about some basic aquascaping ideas, such as iwugami(spelling), triangle setup and island setup,

maybe some about dutch setups(lljdma06!!!!!!!!)

and info about the golden rule of aquascaping

This is a good idea. :good: I think I have examples of each of the scapes directly from members here. I'd have to do some digging.

The article is finished.

A situation I'm in and thinking about at the moment, how about an article on how to add more light, the different routes available.

How about a section on basic substrates for planted aquaria, such as do's & don'ts. The most common mistake made by some folk, is using gravel when planting -yet again the variety of sand types or aquatic loam used is bewildering. As for myself: I'm still on gravel due to a fear of using sand which may have contaminates in it.
sharp sand, building sand, play sand, honey sand - it's all very confusing, also where to buy reliable substrate. If anyone out there wishes to write a guide for substrates, I think it would be quite useful as well as appreciated by many confused aquarists.

:shout:

to be honest, Bazza57, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using gravel in a planted tank, nor is there anything wrong with using an inert substrate (sand, gravel, whatever), so long as you provide the necessary nutrients through the water column. I do, however, like the idea of a survey article on the plant-specific substrates and have started a topic to see if anyone's interested in writing it.

Chisbassist, I'm not ignoring you. Recent trends in the hobby discourage adding more lighting in favor of stabilizing CO2 and nutrient levels, so upgrading lighting has not been as pressing a topic as it's been in the past. I'll have to look through some of the earlier threads here or venture into hardware to see what I can dig up.

I've been promising ASW an article on light for ages but not got round to it yet. Been waiting on loads of outside info to sort of base things on and it is all very time consuming to gather plus relying on third parties to get info together can be a long drawn out process.

I'll get something together in the next six months but I would second Llj's comment above in that most people are actually downgrading rather than upgrading.

The brand names like Fluval and Juwel are way behind and only just aded more light because people were talking about lights needing to be increased. Just as they did that the understandings of CO2, light relationship became an area that was more researched and therefore these 2 brands have now shot themsleves in the foot. lol. Almost exactly the same time they started selling tanks with T5HO lighting the understanding meant that what they used to sell was perfectly fine. Doh.

So in essence if you have stock lighting you either have enough or too omuch. It won't be too little in the vast majority of cases.
