Hello everyone! I have an 8" comet goldfish in a 55 gallon tank... She used to have a buddy with her but he died recently :(

Anyway, the tank is empty now, and she's all alone, so I was wondering what kind of things are good to put with goldfish. I don't really care if they look good or anything, as long as she has something to uhmm... "play".... with... Would live plants be good to put in there? (I think she would eat it though)

I used to have silk plants but took them out after people told me that they get worn and the wires poke out. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can put in there? Thanks thanks!

:hi: to the forum. Introduce yourself in the newbie section.

I'm not sure, but I think there should be some goldfish-resistant plants.

As for suitable companions, you might be able to get minnows or another goldfish, but they might get eaten, seeing as how the goldfish you have is so big.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but I don't have a coldwater tank. :/

Yeah, people keep telling me to get new fish, but mine is very aggressive, even against goldfish of her own size :(

Possible fish selection:
Golden Rudd (Scardinius erythrophthalmus)
Golden Minnows (Phoxinus phoxinus)-Fast well oxygenated water needed.
Gudgeon (Gobio gobio)
Three-Spined Stickleback (Gasteroseus aculeatus)
Ten-Spined Sitckleback (Pungitius pungitius)
Rosyred Minnow (Pimephales promelas) (Licence)
Rainbow Dace (Cyprinella lutrensis)
Common Minnow (Phoxinus phoxinus)-Fast well oxygenated water needed.
Sunfish (A Lepomis species)
Goldfish (Carassius auratus)
Comets (Carassius auratus)
Wheather Loaches (Misgurnus anguillicaudatus)........

Live plants would be better because they will aid in the Nitrogen Cycle, however is you have a UGF its porbably not a good idea?
